PerVigil today announced the release of PerVigil Application Monitor (PVLmon) version 4.1, for HP's OpenView Performance Insight (OVPI).

"For over five years, PVLmon has enabled IT departments to reduce workload and improve the availability of ITSM solutions by automating administration and monitoring those ITSM solutions for exceptions," says Gerald McGarvin of PerVigil. "PVLmon is currently in use on hundreds of OVPI servers across the world.  At least two of our customers have installed 50 or more PVLmon licenses, integrating all of their existing OVPI servers and pollers into one manageable solution. Instead of having limited visibility to potential problems with data collection, roll-ups, and other areas, now they receive immediate notification of problems that develop. PVLmon quickly identifies issues and sends notification through SNMP Traps, OVO Messages, help desk trouble tickets, and by sending electronic pages and e-mails to application administrators. Now they can breathe easier knowing that potential problems are being reported so they can take action on issues before they become service-affecting problems."

While PVLmon can be used to monitor any application and host system as a stand-alone or integrated tool, most customers are using PVLmon to monitor OVPI, the application PVLmon was originally developed to monitor.

The key to the success of PVLmon is its clear Rapid Return on Investment:

  • Complete ROI typically within 30 days
  • Immediately reduce workload through sophisticated exception handling
  • Reduce Mean Time to Repair by providing easy access to exception details
  • Increase availability through automated analysis of complex problems
  • Rapid problem resolution reduces staff effort
  • Minimize escalations by improving level-one staff resolution rate and time
  • Shift workload from expensive IT staff to level-one staff

PVLmon has been used by PerVigil customers for over five years. This new release includes a long list of enhancements including deeper integration with OpenView products such as OVO and NNM, hung process analysis, more comprehensive exception analysis, and enhanced notification capabilities including:

  • SNMP Trap
  • OpenView Operations Messaging
  • Trouble Ticket
  • Email
  • Pager
  • Call to External Program
  • Detailed Web-Based Exception Reports

PVLmon v4.1 highlights are:

  • PVLmon v4.1 performs comprehensive analysis of many operational aspects on OVPI and notifies administrators if exceptions are identified. This allows you to take quick corrective actions before end-users are impacted.
  • PVLmon v4.1, once a day, sends a comprehensive summary report of critical functions to designated recipients. This information provides a complete operational health report of OVPI and enables administrators to quickly review the status of OVPI and deal with any issues that have been identified.
  • PVLmon v4.1 analyzes roll-up results searching for errors related to the startup and successful completion of OVPI rollup processes.
  • PVLmon v4.1 monitors database space, database operations, vital OVPI processes for errors and hung status, port status, file system space and much more.
  • PVLmon v4.1 can automatically launch external APIs to other applications, such as a trouble ticket system or other applications within the user's management infrastructure.

PVLmon v4.1 can be evaluated in your environment so you can see first-hand how it significantly improves the stability and effectiveness of your OVPI operations.
